Implementation Schedule for Lean Manufacturing Training
Here is an overview of one suggested schedule for onsite consulting:
Plan and schedule visit 1
Visit 1, Day 1
1. Management Support / Methods
- Breakfast Workshop with plant leadership team. Review agenda with team. Talk about why we are doing this. Discuss What it means to win! Get their support and consensus. Establish key measurables at this time.
Prepare the win/win agreement and have each Plant Leader sign it. This agreement will outline specific goals and objectives for the "Winning Strategies" Implementation.
2. Front Line Leadership
- Establish schedule for delivery of first six modules of Front Line Leadership.
3. QIS Discipline
- Present QIS overview training to Plant Leadership.
Schedule Guidance Team Visit / QIS Monthly Meeting.
Visit 1, Day 2
4. EI/QPS Discipline
- Identify improvement teams
Provide training as required.
Attack the problem, not the person.
5. Establish Planning Room
- Install Storyboards and format.
Begin displaying available data.
Review with key measure leaders.
Visit 1, Day 3
6. Visual Management Techniques
- Employee Picture Board, by classification

7. 5S / Housekeeping Overview and Implementation (Training Course)
- Provide Training and assistance for cleanup of facility.
Plan and schedule visit 2, one to two weeks from visit 1
Visit 2, Day 1
Review agenda with plant leadership team. Review action plan and accomplishments since last visit. Adjust plan based on actions completed. Have Plant Manger reinforce importance of the "Winning Strategies©."
Review Planning Room and Visual Management.
8. Production Planning
- Understand current method of planning.
Introduce improvements to the planning process as developed in other plants (Best Practices).
9. Production Reporting
- Understand current method for reporting production.
Adjust current method to Company Standard.
Report performance to the production, inventory and sales plan on a daily basis.
Visit 2, Day 2
10. Quick Product Change Training (Training Course)
- Form Product Change Team
Conduct Training Session
Establish action plan to improve Product Changes.
Plan and schedule visit 3, one to two weeks from visit 2
Visit 3, Day 1
Review agenda with plant leadership team. Review action plan and accomplishments since last visit. Adjust plan based on actions completed. Have Plant Manger reinforce importance of the "Winning Strategies©."
11. Project Management Training (Training Course)
- Teams and team leaders need to understand how to set realistic goals and priorities.
Teams and team leaders need to understand how to separate Value Added and Non-Value Added tasks and act only on the Value Added tasks.
Organizing work for team building.
Designing work breakdown structures.
Tie to measurable they are improving
12. Time Management Training (Training Course)
- Controlling procrastination
Controlling events and taking action - and feeling good about it.
Effective planning to achieve goals on time, every time.
Visit 3, Day 2
13. Running Effective Meetings (Training Course)
- Teams and team leaders need understand general principles of effective meetings as they relate to the Quality improvement system (QIS).
Effective meeting techniques will be needed for the Production Meetings, Staff Meetings, and the Improvement Team meetings.
14. Making Memorable Presentations (Training Course)
- Presentation skills for teams so they can effectively communicate results to others.
Researching audience needs perspectives
Selecting, developing, and using the right visual aids.
Controlling anxiety and staying focused.
Results will be publicized either through "Best Practices" or in presentation format for plant and company leadership.
Plan and Schedule visit 4, one to two weeks from visit 3
Visit 4, Day 1
Review agenda with plant leadership team. Review action plan and accomplishments since last visit. Adjust plan based on actions completed.
Review progress of facility toward implementing QIS in total.
15. Measure Results
- Understand progress that is measured and charted.
Understand "Dash Board" approach to measurements.
Do the trends / charts make sense.
- Should we measure this particular activity or should we measure something different?
- Does the trend tell us what we want to know.
- Can we use the data to zero in on the root cause.
16. Reward Teams
- Reward the teams as they achieve their goals.
Type of reward is based on suggestions from the team.
Visit 4, Day 2
Review the "Winning Strategies©" and how the plant has changed since the first visit. Review should be with the Guidance Team and as many of the plant personnel as possible.
17. Communication
- Glass wall management.
Open communications up and down the line.
Internal and external dissemination of "Best Practices"
18. Management Methods
- Straight forward approach
Open and honest communications
Delegation to subordinates
Communication of expectations and follow up of performance to those expectations.
